Chapter V - Resilience

Schiume will celebrate the fifth edition with some old friends of the festival, and new performers, who will give the feeling of the contemporary underground approach to theatre and performing arts.

The theme of the 2014 edition is resilience.

The term resilience is used in many different disciplines such as design, architecture, physics, sociology and psychology. We feel it is important to introduce this concept to reflect on the italian performance art context, where both the single practitioners and the wider research platforms are affected by the need of constant renegotiation with regards to their territory.

Resilience is the ability to adapt to changing conditions while maintaining functionality and vitality despite the occurrence of externally induced adversities in the surrounding environment.

It’s the ability to reshape its own identity when major changes occur in one’s context. It’s a state of constant renegotiation within the context.
